I'm Jacob McHenry, an independent flight instructor based at KBFL Meadows Field Airport in Bakersfield, California. I'm an FAA Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) and Instrument Instructor (CFII), and I hold a commercial pilot certificate with an instrument rating. I've been teaching for 16 years and have given over 5,000 hours of dual instruction.

What I teach

Discovery flights, private pilot training, instrument rating training, commercial pilot training, flight reviews and instrument proficiency checks, all under 14 CFR Part 61 out of KBFL.

What to expect from lessons

Lessons follow a simple rhythm: a briefing before the flight, the flight itself and a debrief afterward. The aim is for you to understand what you're doing and why, and to leave each lesson knowing what to work on next.

Where I teach and the airplanes

I teach out of KBFL Meadows Field Airport (Bakersfield, CA 93308). I work with Megahertz Sky Hub, a shop at KBFL that rents airplanes and offers avionics services. Instruction and airplane rental are separate, so you rent the airplane from the shop and arrange lessons with me (flight instruction is $70 per hour). Check with them for rental rates and availability.
